WHAT IT MEANS TO WILDCRAFT SUSTAINABLY
Plants have forever and always given us their unconditional love. Because of that, it is often complex to understand what they are trying to tell us. Not always will a plant demonstrate their feelings through their physical bodies— making it essential that strong and divine relationships are established with each individual plant to ensure the highest level of intentional medicine. Additionally, affecting one plant affects them all. We are stewards of the lands we roam, and we must educate ourselves to the best of our abilities in order to uphold the level of respect that it deserves.
Sophia and I both studied at Columbines School of Botanical Studies (amongst other schools). Throughout our studies, we learned to use a valuable set of guidelines that would help us determine whether or not we should harvest.
Included is a photo of our wildcrafting checklist, taken from Columbines.
We feel deeply that as long as we continue to ask ourselves these questions, we won’t fall short of being our most sustainable wildcrafting selves.
I challenge those who wildcraft to use their hearts to guide themselves, rather than their pockets and deep lust for plants.
